How to Use the Face-Saver Pillow™
Sleeping on your side
When sleeping on your side, the Face-Saver Pillow™ is designed to curve around the outside of your face. Keep in mind that you do not have to use the entire length of the pillow to accomplish this. Any excess pillow will just extend over your head. Pull one end of the pillow down (behind your ear) so that it supports your neck and shoulder. The section of the pillow you're using around your face will be bearing the weight of your head.
The most important factor is to make sure your face is not touching the pillow or sleeping surface. Your face should be suspended in air. You should be able to slide your hand between your sleeping surface and your face, and not touch anything. To move from your left side to your right side, simply flip the pillow over – so simple you can do it in your sleep.
If you're accustomed to sleeping on a big fluffy pillow, with your face buried in it, there will be a little adjustment time. Some people find that in order to be comfortable, they need more head elevation. You can use the Face-Saver Pillow™ on top of a regular pillow if you make sure that the regular pillow is not too soft or so large that it pushes into your face. This will destroy the advantages and benefits of the Face-Saver Pillow™. It might be a good idea to check this out with a hand mirror.
Sleeping on your Back
Sleeping on your back with the Face-Saver Pillow™ allows you to take advantage of gravity's pull by allowing the pull to be back toward your hairline, instead of downward. If you lie on your back and hold a hand mirror over your face, you'll understand what I mean – Instant Youth!
Gives you Supreme Support and Comfort
Sleeping with the Face-Saver Pillow™ in this position also provides excellent cervical support. You should place the pillow under your neck, it should be flat, not on the seam. Pull the ends up behind your ears, as it cradles your head. It is sort of an open horseshoe. However, if you find it more comfortable, you can also turn the pillow upside down. It will still give you the support. Many people use the pillow in this position when they are reading, watching TV or traveling.
Sleeping on your Stomach
Sleeping on your stomach is never a good idea. Not only is it extremely damaging to your face, but it also hampers your ability to breathe properly, which inhibits your oxygen intake. However, if you're currently doing this, turn your head to the side and follow the instructions for sleeping on your side. Please try to correct this habit, even if you start with only a few hours at a time.
I never thought I would give up my buckwheat pillow, but I must admit I love my new Face-Saver Pillow. I took it with me when I visited my grandchildren in South Carolina. It was wonderful to use on the plane, as well as in bed.
